Government Launches Enhanced eTravel System for International Travelers

The Philippine government has officially launched an upgraded eTravel System to streamline immigration processing for both arriving and departing international travelers. The enhanced system aims to improve efficiency, security, and convenience at all exit and entry points nationwide.

Who Attended the Launch?

The event was graced by key government officials, including:

  • Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado
  • Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) Chairman Dante Ang II
  • Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy
  • Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Eric Jose Ines

What is the Enhanced eTravel System?

Developed by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in partnership with the Bureau of Immigration (BI), CFO, and other government agencies, the upgraded eTravel System is designed to:
Automate immigration procedures, reducing manual processing
Minimize waiting times at immigration counters
Strengthen border security through integrated databases
Ensure real-time data sharing among government agencies

According to Immigration Commissioner Viado, the initiative aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s vision of a modern, technology-driven government service.

"The launch of the enhanced eTravel System ensures that both Filipinos and foreign travelers experience seamless processing while upholding the highest standards of border security," Viado stated.

Tackling Human Trafficking and Fraud Prevention

A major upgrade in the eTravel System is the integration of:

  • The CFO's database, which stores records of Filipinos engaged in intermarriages or bi-national relationships.
  • The Bureau of Immigration’s travel records, which help authorities track traveler movement.

The Bureau of Immigration revealed that immigration officers have encountered fake CFO Guidance and Counseling Program (GCP) certificates during inspections. These certificates are required for Filipinos in intercultural marriages or relationships before departure to ensure they are equipped with knowledge about cultural and social realities overseas. Unfortunately, such documents have been a target of forgery by human trafficking syndicates.

How the Enhanced eTravel System Benefits Travelers

The new system is expected to:
Speed up the immigration process, reducing long queues at airports
Eliminate fraudulent documentation by verifying records digitally
Improve security checks, making travel safer for Filipinos and foreign visitors
Ensure better coordination between immigration officers and relevant government agencies

What Travelers Need to Know

Travelers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new system, which replaces previous manual processes. Whether you are a Filipino heading abroad or a foreign national visiting the Philippines, the enhanced eTravel System will make your journey faster, safer, and more efficient.
